The 2024 Suzuki GSX-8R sportbike has been launched by Suzuki in India, and prices for the motorcycle start from Rs 9.25 lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 776cc parallel-twin engine and comes in three colour schemes. Here’s what the motorcycle gets.

Suzuki GSX-8R design

The GSX-8R’s styling  pays tribute to Suzuki’s sportbike heritage while aiming to create a new look. At the front are a vertically stacked pair of hexagonal LED headlights that employ a bright mono-focus LED light technology, providing the rider with a clear view of the road ahead. These are further complemented by an LED position light. You also get bold graphics on the GSX-8R. Completing the package is a custom 5-inch colour TFT LCD instrument panel which provides a clear, easy-to-read display of information.

Suzuki GSX-8R engine

Powering the GSX-8R is a 776cc parallel-twin DOHC engine with a 270-degree camshaft that is claimed to give the engine power delivery characteristics and a sound similar to Suzuki’s V-twin engines. This engine produces 82bhp of power and 78Nm of torque. You also get Suzuki’s patented Suzuki Cross Balancer system, a biaxial primary balancer, which helps the engine run smoothly while keeping it compact and lightweight. Complementing this is a cooling system inlet control, which maintains consistent engine temperatures and eliminates rough idling, especially when warming up in colder conditions. Paired with the engine is a six-speed transmission with a bi-directional quickshifter, which comes as standard. The Suzuki Clutch Assist System further makes long rides more comfortable by reducing fatigue and providing smoother shifts.

The GSX-8R’s frame is made from rugged steel pipe and the bike is fitted with forged aluminium separate handlebars, placed lower and further forward to offer a sporty riding position. The lightweight cast aluminium wheels, paired with Dunlop RoadSport 2 radial tires (120/70ZR17 at the front; 180/55ZR17 at the rear) offer great grip and stability. Suspension duties are handled by a SHOWA SFF-BP (Separate Function Fork – Big Piston) inverted front forks at the front while there is a dedicated link-type mono-shock rear suspension with a preload adjuster. The GSX-8R also gets an aluminium swingarm.

Suzuki GSX-8R features

The Suzuki GSX-8R uses the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) which features a three-mode Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) to adapt to different riding conditions and styles. It also includes the advanced four-mode (including an option to turn off) Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS) that boosts rider confidence by providing better control. Furthermore, S.I.R.S. incorporates Ride-by-Wire Electronic Throttle System, a bi-directional quickshifter (QS), anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Suzuki’s Low RPM Assist.
