HOP electric is an experienced electric scooter manufacturer which has now entered the world of electric motorcycles with its first product, the HOP OXO. The motorcycle is meant to be a regular commuter and thus does away with any fancy frills and design quirks, which have been so prevalent in the electric scooter and motorcycle launches in the past. Let’s take a look at the features of the HOP OXO.

In terms of design, the HOP OXO is a uniquely normal-looking commuter bike, especially in the front where the headlight design is quite similar to certain Yamaha bikes. There is a slim LED taillight along with black alloy wheels. Overall, there is little to mark the HOP OXO apart from the competition, but that could be a good thing meaning electric vehicles are now in the mainstream and can compete on their own terms with conventional rivals instead of relying on gimmicks.

The HOP OXO is powered by a 5.3kW motor that produces a peak torque output of 185Nm, which is a huge amount for a bike in its class. The OXO X variant with an even bigger 6.3kW motor producing 200Nm of torque can make the 0-40kmph run in just 3.5 seconds, and then onwards to a top speed of 95kmph. With a 3.75kWh battery pack, HOP claims a range of 150km, with 0-80 percent charging capabilities in less than four hours. The HOP OXO also has four ride modes: eco, power, sport and turbo which should enhance its usability. These are very respectable specifications for what is still a nascent entrant in the electric motorcycle space, comparable to some of the best in the class. In terms of other features, the HOP OXO gets regenerative braking, connected features, a 5-inch touchscreen display with an IP67 waterproof rating and 4G sim capability.

Speaking about the launch, Ketan Mehta, the Founder of HOP Electric Mobility said, “Electric is taking the Indian market by storm. This growth is propelled by consumers’ inclinations toward sustainable, convenient and affordable mobility solutions. HOP OXO is the result of years of R&D, road testing and the hard work of hundreds of HOP employees that have put their sweat and blood to launch the most progressive e-bike in the market. Given that our dealer partners have already conducted 5000 pre-launch registrations, we foresee tremendous hypergrowth in this category. We are continuously working to strengthen our product portfolio further.”

The HOP OXO has been priced starting at ₹1.25 lakh, going up to ₹1.4 lakh for the OXO X variant and hence competes with well-established rivals such as the Revolt RV400, Tork Kratos and Oben Rorr. Alongside these, it also competes with conventional commuter rivals such as the TVS Raider, Hero Glamour, Yamaha FZX and others. While its specifications are par for the course, it is the service experience that will be the HOP OXO’s biggest differentiator.
