A few days ago, Automobili Pininfarina released some images of its upcoming electric hypercar codenamed PF0. Now, the company is christened its upcoming electric hypercar as ‘Battista’, as a tribute to Pininfarina founder, Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina and is set to make its world debut at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show. The Battista prototype will continue to tour European cities prior to its Geneva reveal.

The name recognises Battista’s dream to see a range of solely-Pininfarina branded cars on the roads, says Automobili Pininfarina. Paolo Pininfarina and Anand Mahindra came together to announce the name of the all-electric hypercar.

The announcement was made at Mahindra’s annual Leadership Symposium held at Pininfarina SpA’s headquarters in Cambiano, Italy. Paolo Pininfarina shook hands with Mahindra & Mahindra’s chairman, Anand Mahindra, and Michael Perschke, CEO Automobili Pininfarina, to confirm that the limited-edition hypercars would take his grandfather’s first name.

Only 150 Automobili Pininfarina Battistas will be available from late-2020 at a price estimated USD 2 million and USD 2.5 million, according to the company. 50 cars are currently allocated to the USA, 50 in Europe and 50 for the Middle East and Asia region, says Automobili Pininfarina.

The Battista is based on the company’s ‘Pura’ design philosophy. It also announced its technical partnership with Automobili Rimac and signed Nick Heidfeld as its test driver a few months ago. The all electric hypercar boasts of a monumental power figure of 1900bhp and an earth-twisting 2300Nm! Pininfarina claims that the Battista will shatter the 100kmph barrier in less than two seconds (faster than a F1 car), with a top whack of 402kmph! As it is a fully electric hypercar with zero emissions, eco-mentalists can breathe a sigh of relief. The company claims that the hypercar will have a range of more than 480km on a single charge.

Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina was the founder of the Carrozzeria Pininfarina coachbuilding company that he started in 1930. The ‘Battista’ will be designed and hand-built in very limited numbers at Pininfarina SpA under the leadership of Paulo Pininfarina, Battista’s grandson and current Pininfarina SpA Chairman.

On naming the all-electric hypercar as Battista, Paolo Pininfarina, chairman Pininfarina SpA said, “This is genuinely a dream come true. My grandfather always had the vision that one day there would be a stand-alone range of Pininfarina-branded cars. This hypercar will boast world-beating performance, technology innovation and of course elegant styling.  For me, we simply had to call it Battista. His dream becomes reality today as we link our glorious past with the future of motoring.”

On the Pininfarina Battista, Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “We are really proud and grateful that Paolo and his family have allowed Battista’s name to be given to what will be a beautiful, elegant and technologically game-changing car. That is so appropriate for a car branded Pininfarina as these are core elements that have defined Pininfarina’s legendary automotive design for nearly 90 years. Now we hope to respectfully work with that legacy and deliver a stunning car that is worthy of his name.”
