On Day Two of the Auto Expo 2020, Piaggio took the crowd by surprise with the unveiling of the Aprilia SXR 160 Maxi scooter which is slated to go on sale by the end of this year. Piaggio also had the European-spec electric Vespa, limited-edition Vespa Racing Sixties along with the 2020 Vespa Red, SXL and VXL. Aprilia’s 2020 BS6 range in India has also been displayed, with the Strom 125, getting a new colour scheme and a front disc brake.

All you need to know about Aprilia SXR 160

Aprilia’s latest offering has been under development for the last 2.5 years for the Indian market. The SXR will be available in 160cc and 125cc 3V engine seen on the SR range. Aprilia is likely to alter the tuning as per the SXR’s requirement. The scooter gets 12-inch wheels with a disc brake at the front along with ABS.

The SXR range gets twin LED illumination, with the fascia resembling the latest mid-weight supersport RS 660. Being a maxi scooter, it boasts of a larger storage capacity and a glove box at the front. There are features like a digital console and USB charging along with optional connectivity features.

The scooter will be available in four colours and bookings are expected to commence online in August 2020.

Another interesting product at the Piaggio stall was the Vespa Ellectrica. Though this was a Euro-spec model and the brand hasn’t revealed any plans of launching it, the brand believes that electric mobility will have strong market growth in the next three to five years. Piaggio is already evaluating an electric product for India which will be developed in house, including the battery and powertrain.Other international products from the Italian group were the Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory and the Moto Guzzi V85TT.
