Aprilia SXR 125 launched at Rs 1.14 lakh

After launching the SXR 160 in December last year, Aprilia has now launched its younger sibling, the SXR 125 at Rs 1.14 lakh, ex-showroom, Pune. At that price, the SXR 125 isn’t what you would call affordable and costs only Rs 10,000 (approximately) less than the SXR 160. Anyway, it does come with a stand out design and some premium features.

On the design front, the Aprilia SXR 160 turned a lot of heads when we reviewed it last year and the SXR 125 will continue to do so as it looks absolutely identical. But this is a design that we love. The maxi-scooter bodywork with a large fairing makes it stand-out from the competition while the stylish LED headlamps and DRLs have been carried over as well.

In terms of engine, the SXR 125 is powered by the same unit found in the SR 125. It gets a 124.45cc, single-cylinder, fuel injected block that produces 9.3bhp at 7600rpm and 9.2Nm of torque at 6250rpm. It’s suspended on telescopic forks upfront and a single hydraulic shock at the rear. It runs on 12-inch alloys and braking duties are carried out by a 220mm disc with dual-piston calipers upfront and a 140mm drum at the rear.

With respect to features, there’s ample on offer. As aforementioned, it gets LED lighting all around. In addition to that, it gets a digital instrument cluster that displays a whole host of information; rpm, mileage and average and top speeds. Bluetooth is offered as an option and that further enhances connectivity with the likes of navigation and calling functions. There’s also a USB charging port neatly tucked under the handlebar.

At Rs 1.14 lakh, the Aprilia SXR 125 is the second most expensive 125cc scooter, the first being its own cousin, the Vespa Racing Sixties 125 that starts at Rs 1.21 lakh. For perspective, the range topping Honda Activa 125, one of the bestsellers in this segment costs Rs 79,000 while the enthusiast-favourite TVS Ntorq 125 has a sticker of Rs 81,000.
