The focus on genuine automobile parts

The Auto Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) had announced a number of road shows that will be conducted across the country to create awareness on road safety at this year’s Auto Expo. Following the announcement, ACMA recently organised its first road show at Kalamboli Trailer and Transport Hub, Mumbai. The road safety campaign by ACMA promoted the usage of genuine spare parts for the vehicles. The use of counterfeit parts in automobiles results in sudden breakdowns and hence, raises safety issues. ACMA had brought together truck drivers, technicians, distributors, mechanics and fleet owners on a single platform to raise awareness on the same and to stop the usage of counterfeit parts in automobiles. They were given a brief about the usage of genuine parts in vehicles and its positive impact on the safety of automobiles.

Rama Shankar Pandey, chairman, aftermarket committee of ACMA and managing director of Hella India Lighting Ltd said, “In a bid to make the Indian Roads safer and sensitize the public towards their responsibility on road, Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) has launched an umbrella campaign ACMA safer drives in 2017. Working on various initiatives in the domain of engineering, education and enforcement, ACMA is taking the leadership to put this sensitive topic on national priority. In this regard to demonstrate projects of organising, standardizing and digitizing the auto aftermarket, ACMA is working on bringing common auto industry part catalogue, training technicians and other support initiatives to automotive dealers, retailers, workshops, mechanics and technicians, all of which is on display at the road show.”

At the event, Prashant Thakur, the MLA of Panvel said, “Proper installation of products is as important to the safety of the vehicle as much as the quality of the product.  Understanding that mechanics, drivers , cleaners are key to vehicle safety, this kind of road show educate  auto mechanics and electricians on the importance of using genuine product and also  the correct way of installation. This will help in the movement against counterfeits and substandard parts which will contribute to reduction in accidents.”
