Advait Deodhar secured his first ever pole position and race victory in Brands Hatch at EuroNascar 2. Deodhar secured pole in rainy conditions and went on to lead all 30 laps of race one despite pressure from drivers behind. He also started race two from pole but due to early tyre degradation, he managed P3. Overall, he had a great weekend with a double podium finish and a massive points boost.
Deodhar scored his first ever podium in Europe on a cloudy Saturday morning. He had to face tricky conditions as it started to rain by the second half of the qualifying session.
Deodhar explains, “I’m confident that I could have done an even quicker lap, but luckily I'd already done enough, by the time the skies opened up.”
Deodhar led every single lap of the 30-lap race. He managed to keep the car in control and set consistent lap times while being constantly charged by championship leader Tobias Dauenhauer. There was a gap of just 0.433 seconds between the two. Deodhar also set the fastest lap of the race which put him on pole for race two.
Race two proved to be a challenge for the Indian as he faced massive tyre degradation. Due to this, he started to struggle after the halfway mark. He enjoyed track battle with the number 66 car of Simon Pilate “I had an incredible on-track battle with car #66 for the remainder of the race and did everything I could to keep him behind me. The racing was pretty spectacular but he eventually got past with 2 laps to go, after I ran wide due to lack of grip. Finished P3, says Deodhar.
This was a great boost for the Indian as he scooped up massive points and pushed himself to fourth in the championship table. Deodhar now stands at 124 points and is just 20 points behind the championship leader Tobias Dauenhauer. Round five of the EuroNascar 2 will be held at Autodrom Most, Czech Republic on August 28.
