The 2022 FIA Motorsport Games are officially underway in Marseille, France after a two-year-long break due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Motorsport Games are expanded from six to 16 disciplines for its second edition. Among 463 athletes participating across 72 nations, six will be Indian across five disciplines.
The 2022 FIA Motorsport Games began with an opening ceremony in Marseille on October 26 where it played host to 72 nations and 463 athletes across 16 disciplines. The cars in which they were competing were also on display. The event was graced with the presence of Robert Reid, FIA Deputy President for Sport and Felipe Massa, FIA Driver’s Commission President and an 11-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner.
There have been expansions in the previously present categories such as GT, Touring Car, Formula 4, Esports, Drifting and Karting as well as new additions such as Rally, Auto Slalom and Cross Car. India will be represented in five disciplines with Ruhaan Alva in Formula 4, Sanjay Takale and Mike Young in Rally 4 Cup, Prateek Dalal and Pragathi Gowda in Auto Slalom while Ishaan Madesh and Kyle Kumaran will be in Karting Sprint Jr and Sr respectively.
The increase in disciplines makes for an increase in activities which are now centred around Circuit Paul Ricard, Veyned and St. Baume. Rally2, Rally 4 and Historic Rally are the most diverse with 14 marques present across the three categories. On the other hand, categories like Karting, KCMG Formula 4 and Auto Slalom will have the same types of equipment being used by all the competitors. The Esports side of things will use gaming rigs by Fanatec, with the competition taking place on the highly acknowledged simulator, Assetto Corsa Competizione.
The live coverage of the event begins on October 29. The GT qualifying will be the first competitive action and shall commence at 9.30pm IST. The coverage will be broadcasted live on the official FIA Motorsports Games Youtube channel and Facebook page.
