Ducati’s Jorge Lorenzo scores his second consecutive MotoGP win in Barcelona. Lorenzo pushed to convert his pole position into a commendable win after battling it out with Marquez.

The three-time world champion has now equalized the points sheet with team-mate Andrea Dovizioso. Dovizioso crashed and is 49 points behind Marc Marquez who leads nearest rival Valentino Rossi by 27 points. Lorenzo is known for his quick race starts and was expected to lead the pack right from the beginning of the race but Marquez took the lead.

Iannone then challenged Marquez for the lead at the sharp Turn 10 left-hander, braking late down the inside but running well wide, allowing Marquez to keep the lead and Lorenzo to take second.

Lorenzo then lined up Marquez for a move on the start-finish straight, using the slipstream and Ducati’s straight-line advantage to reclaim the lead.

Marquez was right on the tail of his future Repsol Honda team-mate. They had soon created a gap from all but Dovizioso who managed to stay in touch with Marquez. Lorenzo began to pick up the pace, remaining in the low 1m40s margin while Marquez’s pace dropped off.

Lorenzo’s lead was up to a second and a half, and he managed it to the chequered flag, winning by 4.4 seconds. The second spot was taken by Marquez followed by Rossi rounding up the podium.
