The 2018 Maruti Suzuki Dakshin Dare rally was flagged off from Bengaluru yesterday. There are around 26 participants in the Ultimate cars category while 17 participants are competing for the crown in the Ultimate bikes category. There will be a total of five legs while all eyes are on the defending champions- Team Maruti Suzuki Motorsport.

Even though the ceremonial start was held in Bengaluru, the leg one of the rally started early this morning near Hosadurga, which is located a few kilometers north of the metropolitan. The front runners in the extreme class category are team Maruti Suzuki Motorsport’s Suresh Rana along with co-driver Chirag Thakur in the AWD Grand Vitara and Samrat Yadav accompanied by co-driver Karan Aukta in the AWD S-cross.

This year team Maruti Suzuki motorsport has brought in two Vitara Brezzas for the competition. The FWD Brezza will be driven by Sandeep Sharma with co-driver Anmol Rampal and the AWD will be driven by DP Jhangra along with co-driver Chandar Shekhar Rana. Though the first one to start off the leg one was Mahindra Adventure’s Gaurav Gill along with co-driver Musa Sharif in their XUV 500.

In the Ultimate bikes category the front runners are Jatin Jain riding the KTM 450 and Sumesh Reddiar in his Royal Enfield Himalayan.

In this year’s Dakshin Dare, the participants will be driving from Bengaluru to Goa through an exciting range of terrains, set across five legs, where the ruggedness of their cars and the participants’ mental strength will be put to a thorough test.
