Jehan Daruvala finishes in the third step of the podium in the Formula 2 Feature Race at Sochi. After a difficult Sprint Race 1, Daruvala managed to bounce back in the Feature Race and earned a P3 finish after a bad start from second. Daruvala currently stands in seventh in the drivers championship with 96 points after the weekend at Sochi. Sprint Race 1 was not a good start for the young Indian as one mistake of his potentially costed him a podium as well as a points finish in the race. But it was clear that Daruvala had the pace to be a top runner at Sochi.
After qualifying P2 on the grid, Daruvala had a dream front row start for the Feature Race. But as the lights went out, he was unable to hook the tyres and get a clean start off the line. By the time the train of cars reached turn 1, Daruvala lost two positions and dropped to P4. Daruvala pitted in lap seven and from then onwards, he started driving in a good rhythm and also started to reel in the lost time and positions. By the end of the race, Daruvala managed to put Ralph Boschung under pressure and snatched the position from the Swiss driver in the closing stages.
This podium finish puts Daruvala in a competitive P7 on the driver’s championship table ahead of Liam Lawson at 80 points and just behind Jüri Vips with 102 points. The next race is at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia which is a new track in the Formula 2 calendar and will be held on December 3. For more updates, stay tuned to evo India!
