Stage 2 of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge proved to be difficult for the Hero MotoSports riders to endure the extreme heat and navigate the undulating dunes of the desert. But despite that, two out of the three Hero MotoSports riders were able to finish in the top 10. This stage was also the longest stage in the rally with 333km of Special Stage, with an additional 137km of liaison sections.
Joaquim Rodrigues had a better day than yesterday. He was able to finish the stage in P6, one better than his Stage 1 finish. He expressed that he was still low on energy from the last stage, but he managed to push through the heat and his condition to bring the bike back home.
Sebastian Buhler managed to climb back the order with a P5 finish in the stage. After the stage, he said, “Today was a very long and tough stage in the sand, one of the toughest stages I have ridden. Riding in these deserts is very tricky with long fast plateaus and sudden steep descents. Overall, I am happy with my performance and looking forward to the next stage.”
Franco Caimi had a good start in the stage but his bike came to a halt at the 120km mark due to a technical problem. He fell down the order and is now in P17.
With that said, Stage 3 will see the riders cover an additional 293km in the desert with a relatively short liaison section of 35km. For more news and updates from the world of motorsports, stay tuned to evo India!
