Great news for motorsport enthusiasts as a new race track is set to be added to India’s portfolio. Coimbatore Auto Sports Transport Trust (CoASTT) has partnered with Mumbai Falcons for the construction of the circuit, which will be Coimbatore’s second race track after the Kari Motor Speedway Racetrack and is expected to open its doors by March 2022. It is located just thirty minutes away from the Coimbatore airport.
This track is 3.8km in its total length. The track has the accreditation of FIA Grade 2 with a Grade 1 CIK track in the infield. It is 15 metres wide on the main straight and 12 metres wide on the other parts of the circuit.
The layout of this track has been designed by Apex Circuit Design and they have a portfolio that covers famous national and international tracks. They are responsible for mapping out some iconic circuits like the Dubai Autodrome and the Madras Motor Race Track. Apex is also behind the Miami F1 circuit which is set to be included in the 2022 Formula 1 calendar.
Mumbai Falcons is expected to conduct its entire Asia Formula 3 operations from this new circuit. This will allow the team to have a base, give them access to industry-standard infrastructure and in turn, help the budding drivers to learn the craft of racing.
With that said, we have three major race tracks in the country which are the Buddh International Circuit (BIC), Madras Motor Race Track (MMRT), and Coimbatore’s Kari Motor Speedway. With the addition of this circuit, India’s motorsport grassroot will have access to even better equipment and facilities. Coimbatore’s second race track will join the list of upcoming tracks in India which currently comprise names like Nanoli Speedway, Marque One and the Pista Motor Raceway.
