This was pretty much an inevitable expansion for the motorcycle racing series as Dorna has officially announced that the Buriram International Circuit will host a round of MotoGP 2018 onwards.

With the season already being contested over 18 rounds, the addition of another round will certainly bring up the debate in the paddock over the travel as well as race schedules. In the pre-race conference at Czech GP, riders had voiced their opinion as they were willing to have an expansion of the race calendar but were firmly set on the point that it should not be more than 20 rounds in the year.

The Buriram International Circuit is a new facility that had been inaugurated in 2014 and has been hosting Asia Road Racing Championship as well as World Superbikes for a couple of years now. The arrival of MotoGP will be a feather in the cap for the Thai venue which promises to be one of the faster circuits on the calendar.

The initial contract between the officials and the track authorities have confirmed that the circuit will feature on the calendar from 2018 until 2020.
