Mercedes-Benz has showcased its stunning new concept at the Pebble Beach Automotive Car Week – the Vision EQ Silver Arrow. The 5.3 metre long, single seater, all electric concept car pays tribute to the record breaking W 125 car (powered by a V12 engine) from 1937. Styling of the concept car takes inspiration from racecars through the 30’s to 50’s.
The concept car’s body is made entirely using carbon fibre and coloured in silver, reminiscent of the W 125. The air vents on the side help to cool the battery. The two rear spoilers are extendable and act as an air brake to decelerate the car. The side skirts feature a lighting strip and EQ lettering in front of the rear wheels is illuminated in blue. The rose gold coloured wheels get 168 spokes and are made of aluminium. The wheels are shod with Pirelli 255/25 R 24 tyres at the front and 305/25 R 26 tyres at the rear. The tread too has an exquisite star pattern.
The cockpit is compact and is accessible by folding a partial cover forward. The seats and steering wheel are covered in light brown leather while the interiors are adorned by brushed aluminium and walnut wood. The concept car gets a curved panoramic main display and a secondary touchscreen display nestled within the steering wheel. The driver modes like comfort, sport and sport+ can be controlled from the secondary touch screen. The concept car makes 737bhp from its electric motors and it has a rechargeable battery located under the body with a capacity of 80kWh. The claimed range of the car is more than 400km as per WLTP cycle.
The Vision EQ Silver Arrow is a product of the company’s past motorsport glories combined with a modern twist with the introduction of state-of-the-art technologies and the fine attention to detail given in every nook and cranny of the car. The EQ range of electric vehicles will be the company’s new generation of upcoming electric vehicles and the Mercedes-Benz EQC will be the first of the models, which will be launched internationally in 2019.
