The Covid-19 pandemic has made a lot of changes in our lives and not being able to physically walk into a car dealership to spec the car of your dreams your way is one of them. Carmakers have adapted to this change and, with the help of technology, are giving this challenge a major faceoff with online car configurators. Renault India's online configurator, named the Renault Virtual Studio, for the Kiger allows us to experience and customise the car from the comfort of our couch! We at evo India have put up a contest where 25 of you can win a full tank of petrol by simply customising a Kiger to your taste! Click here to take a look at all the terms and conditions related to the contest and find out how to submit your entires. Read on below for a quick guide on how to use the configurator to spec your Kiger or watch our YouTube video!
The action begins by logging in to Renault India's website, and clicking the 'Explore More' button on the homepage, which directs us to a slew of options about the Kiger. It is here that Renault has set up a 'Virtual Studio' section which takes us to the configurator.
The configuration process has now begun and a Caspian Blue Kiger appears right in front of you. This is a scrollable 3D live image, which allows you to look at the Kiger from all the sides and angles — inside and out.
There are five icons on the left of the screen which control different aspects of the configuration. The very first one allows you toggle between exterior and interior views. You can use this to (virtually) jump into the Kiger's cabin and you can zoom in to get a look at elements like the digital drivers display, and you can also get into the back seat to get a feel as to what the Kiger looks like from the second row. The interior view on the configurator is highly detailed — the digital displays are switched on, the seat stitching is clearly seen and the configurator even gives you the option to open the glovebox.
The second icon makes it possible to view the Kiger in any one of its 11 colors. You can select between the dual and monotone options and then look at the Kiger from all sides. It gives you an apt impression of how the car will look like in real life!
The third icon lets you switch between the different variants and engines available in each of them. The RXE, RXL, RXT and the range topping RXZ feature slight variations on the exterior and these are reflected on the configurator as well. For example, if you select the base RXE variant with your choice of engine, you’ll spot that it comes with steel wheels and wheel caps, no roof rails and standard halogen headlights, while on higher-spec variants you get alloy wheels, LED lights and chrome garnishings.
The fourth icon changes the background views. You can toggle between day, night and studio settings and if you select the night view, the Kiger can be seen with its LED headlights and tail lights switched on. This gives you an impression of how your Kiger would look in different lighting situations, making it easier to narrow down your paint choices.
The fifth and the last icon allows us to open all the doors, the bonnet and the boot of the Kiger, just like how we would do in a dealership. With the doors open, you can even jump back inside the car!
That isn't all though, there are additional options to view on the bar present at the bottom. The features button shows you the design, cabin, engine details and safety features of the Kiger. By selecting any one you can take a deep dive and get a closer look at that element. For example, the 'stunning design' section displays all the exterior features and styling elements of the Kiger, like the dual tone roof, diamond cut alloy wheels, LED head and tail lights, among others.
Renault offers a lot of chrome add-ons for the exterior of the Kiger and you can look at all of them in the accessories option. You can select different accessories like a front grille chrome garnish, body side cladding with chrome, chrome on the tailgate, among other options, and you can instantly see how it will look on the car. It also tells you the individual cost of every item. There are also accessories available for the interior where you can add things like floor mats, a trunk light and even a centre console organizer. More accessories like a wireless charger will be available for the Kiger at a later date which will be online on the website too.
The third option on the bar lets you compare all aspects between all the variants of the Kiger — it shows a detailed list of all the options you get on every variant. You can also toggle between the different engines available on each trim level as well. The summary also gives you all the technical info about the model. Finally, the summary option shows you the details of the car you've just customised — the variant, accessories and even the color with the ex-showroom price after adding in the accessory charges (if any). Lastly, there are also options to book a test drive by filling in your details and the option to book the Kiger online by paying a sum of Rs 11,000.
The configurator allows us to experience the Kiger like how we would in a showroom, but virtually. But it goes a step further because it also allows us to instantly individualize the details, and makes it possible to buy the car from the comfort of our home. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and customise your own Kiger to stand a chance to win a full tank of fuel! Of course, we urge you to stay at home at the moment and refill those tanks after the lockdown.
