After Koteshwar, Kanyakumari and Kibithoo, the Renault Kwid is now making its way to Kargil on the IndiaDiamondTrail. On day 28, we drove from Delhi to Jammu on some fabulous roads. The wide highways leading out of Delhi ensured we moved at a brisk pace. However, the unruly traffic surely made it quite the task. Thankfully, the Kwid was nimble enough to ensure that we could stay well clear of the reckless drivers on the road.

The highways soon led us to Haryana and Punjab later. And the highways kept improving. Traffic too became sparse and we could really push the 1.0-litre heart of the Kwid. Maintaining triple digit speeds was a breeze on the dual carriageway sections. While we were driving on the NH44, in temperatures hovering above the 40 degree Celsius mark, the air con system shone through. It kept us comfortable all along.
The 600km drive from Delhi to Jammu was accomplished in around 10 hours of driving in spite of the fact that we had to deal with traffic jams leaving Delhi and that says quite a lot about the sustained high-speed cruising ability of the Kwid. And it wasn’t just the fact that we could do these high speeds but the brakes on the Kwid had enough bite to haul us in when an errant driver cut across us.
By late evening, we were in Jammu. Tomorrow we start climbing and head to Sonamarg. Stay tuned.
