Castrol, the leading provider of vehicular lubricants in India, has launched a new addition to the Castrol Super Mechanic Initiative: The Super Mechanic Contest for cars. Over 12,000 mechanics from Mumbai and Delhi applied to show their practical knowledge and competency in the the qualifier round, which included an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) section. From there, around 150 participants moved on to the city-level rounds: highly competitive rounds, designed to specifically test the participants’ knowledge of vital car components, and their maintenance & repair. Six winners will be selected from each of the cities to compete head-to-head against each other and other professionals at the Indian National Finals this August. The top 3 placements will represent India at the Castrol Asia Pacific Cars Super Mechanic contest, in Malaysia in September 2018.

This, similar to the competition for bikes, has been organized to ensure that mechanics within the automotive industry receive their own well-earned appreciation. Through this, they give hundreds of mechanics a chance to participate on a larger platform, showcase their skills, and pit their own knowledge and talents against other such aspirants.

Official Statements

Mr Kedar Apte, Vice President, Marketing – Castrol India, said, “We are overwhelmed by the response received for Castrol Super Mechanic contest for car mechanics, launched this year in Delhi and Mumbai. This event underlines Castrol’s commitment to upgrade the skills of mechanics and recognize their talent and skills through a public platform. These mechanics work hard to keep our country on the move but they are barely ever recognized for their efforts. I am looking forward to an exciting final event in Mumbai.”

Sanjeev Sharma from Delhi, one of the city round winners, said, “I still cannot believe that I have won the Delhi round of this prestigious Castrol Super Mechanic contest. It feels like I have climbed Mount Everest today and that makes me feel so proud. I can confidently say that in my career spanning 40 years, Castrol Super Mechanic event is the only platform which has given me the recognition and opportunity to better myself.”
