With electric scooters becoming a more common sight on city roads, the Ampere Nexus e-scooter aims to carve out its niche with premium features and practical usability. It features a 3kWh battery with a claimed range of 136km and three ride modes to suit your needs. Beyond that, it also offers a clean design and practical features. We tested the Nexus ST, finished in Zanskar Aqua, and were keen to see if it lives up to the brand’s promise of a quality ride. From its design to performance, here’s how it fares.

Ampere Nexus ST design and features

Right off the bat, the Nexus impresses with its clean and premium design. The scooter features a dual-tone front with a headlamp integrated into the handlebar unit. What stands out is the seamless flow from the front to the rear, with no visible nuts, bolts, or unwanted panel gaps. The hidden rear footrest and grab handle add to its sleekness, while the LED lighting all around ensures a modern look.

Build quality is top-notch. There’s no creaking plastic or misaligned panels, and it genuinely feels built to last. It’s a well-thought-out scooter, available in four attractive colours: Zanskar Aqua, Lunar White, Indian Red, and Steel Grey. Despite its small stature, the 712mm long seat is spacious enough for a comfortable ride, even on longer journeys. Underseat storage is another highlight – I was able to almost fit a full-size helmet, which speaks to its practicality. Weekly grocery runs or carrying daily essentials won’t be a problem, and the floorboard offers ample space for your feet, adding to the scooter’s comfort.

Other thoughtful features include a USB charging port below the handlebar and a 7-inch display on the top variant. This display auto-adjusts between day and night modes and comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling music control, phone notifications, and navigation data right on the screen. Tactile buttons add a nice touch, with feedback that is often missing in rival scooters. The base variant, on the other hand, gets a more basic 6.2-inch display without connectivity options.

The Nexus also comes with practical features like hill-hold, hazard lights, reverse mode, and three ride modes – Power, City, and Eco. However, it lacks ABS, which may be a downside for some buyers, but allows the brand to focus on giving a complete package that isn’t below the mark.

Ampere Nexus ST chassis and handling

On the road, the Nexus is a pleasant companion. Its 765mm seat height should be comfortable for most riders, and the upright seating position ensures a relaxed ride. The suspension setup – hydraulic telescopic forks in the front and twin shocks at the rear – is well-tuned for city conditions, providing a stable ride and crossing over speed bumps and potholes unfazed. When we pushed the scooter to 80kmph on the highway, it still felt composed and unhampered.

The scooter rides on 12-inch alloys with a 1319mm wheelbase and 170mm ground clearance, making it suitable for tackling Indian roads. The braking setup is a disc in the front and a drum at the rear, paired with MRF tyres, which are standard in this segment. Braking and acceleration inspire confidence, and the shorter wheelbase allows for easy cornering and nimble handling in city traffic.

Ampere Nexus ST powertrain and performance

The Nexus is powered by a mid-mounted motor that produces 5.3bhp of peak power with a 16-degree gradability. In the city, it feels brisk, with all the power available instantly, making overtaking easy. The scooter offers three ride modes – Eco, City, and Power. In Eco mode, the top speed is 42kmph, while City mode bumps it up to 63kmph, and Power mode offers a top speed of 93kmph. One of the best aspects of the Nexus’s powertrain is how balanced the performance is across all modes. Even in Eco mode, the scooter doesn’t feel sluggish, so you won’t feel left behind in traffic.

The 3kWh battery provides a claimed CMVR range of 136km, though real-world usage brings that down to around 60-70km in City mode. Still, that’s more than enough for daily commutes. Charging times are reasonable, taking around four hours with the standard 15A charger. An optional 25A charger is available if you want faster charging times.

Ampere Nexus ST verdict

The Nexus offers a premium electric scooter experience at a competitive price. With introductory prices starting at ₹1.10 lakh for the EX and ₹1.20 lakh for the ST, it’s hard to ignore the value proposition. Even at the standard price of ₹1.20 lakh and ₹1.30 lakh, the scooter is considerable. From the sleek design to the practical features like a large underseat storage area and smart display, the scooter feels well-crafted for daily urban commutes. If you're looking for a stylish, feature-rich electric scooter that ticks all the right boxes for a scooter in this segment, the Nexus is definitely worth considering. The only thing that remains to be seen is how well the scooter ages and what the after-sales support will be.
