JLR has announced local assembly for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, effective from next month. India becomes the first country outside of the UK to manufacture Land Rover’s flagship SUVs. The prices have also gone down now because of the lower tax and the Range Rover will start from ₹2.36 crore and the Sport will start from ₹1.4 crore. India will also get an exclusive special edition Range Rover SV.

In 2011, JLR entered into a contract manufacturing agreement with Tata Motors to establish a manufacturing line for JLR vehicles at the Tata Motors plant in Pune, becoming the first manufacturing facility for JLR outside of the UK. The Land Rover Freelander was the first car to be produced at the plant in Chakan, Pune. The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport will join the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport and the Jaguar F-Pace that are already being assembled at the Chakan factory. This move by JLR comes as retail sales in India have surged by 160 per cent and wait time for these cars are too high. With this decision to locally assemble, the deliveries will get quicker and customers will have access to their cars way earlier.

Range Rover

The Range Rover is a pinnacle of luxury and opulence. It serves all purposes – an extremely opulent cabin, plush ride and on the other hand is an equally capable off-roader. The Range Rover Autobiography is the more expensive variant and houses a 3-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 393bhp and 550Nm, courtesy of the local assembly now it’s priced at ₹2.6 crore (₹56 lakh lesser than before). The Range Rover HSE variant gets a 3-litre diesel engine that puts out  346bhp and 700Nm. This variant demands ₹2.36 crore now, which is ₹28 lakh lesser than before. The deliveries of the locally-assembled units are set to begin from May 24, 2024.

The Range Rover Autobiography was previously priced at ₹3.16 crore, and now gets ₹56 lakh more affordable

Range Rover Sport

As the name suggests, the Range Rover Sport is the more dynamic model of the luxury SUV. The locally-assembled Range Rover Sport gets the Dynamic SE variants in both petrol and diesel powertrain options – 3-litre diesel engine makes 346bhp and 700Nm, 3-litre turbo petrol engine makes 393bhp and 550Nm. Both the variants are priced at ₹1.4 crore now, which is ₹22 lakh more affordable than before.

Deliveries for the locally assembled Range Rover and Sport will begin from May 24

JLR has also opened doors to the Range Rover House in Alibaug. It’s a concept where customers and prospects can experience bespoke luxury. Each room in the villa has different experiences like sound therapy, fragrance making, reflexology, design workshops and many more. This shows that JLR is not only focused on selling cars but also as a lifestyle company, especially when you become an owner.
