Auto Expo 2020: Mahindra unveils eXUV300 and eKUV100 along with two concepts

Mahindra showcases vehicles with an onus on Electric Mobility and the eKUV100 launched at Rs 8.25 lakh

Mahindra has showcased vehicles across various segments under the ‘Driven by purpose’ theme at the Auto Expo 2020. Mahindra claims that it will apply to their future products as well. The Indian manufacturer showcased the electric version of the XUV300, dubbed the e-XUV300 and the electric sibling of the KUV300 the e-KUV300 along with two concept vehicles, the Funster and the Atom.

The eXUV300 is based on the Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MESMA) platform and comes with slightly revised aesthetics to suit its electric credentials. It gets an aero grille, redesigned bumpers, blue-panelled headlights and new alloy wheels. When launched, the eXUV300 will go up against the Tata Nexon EV.

eKUV100

Mahindra has also launched the eKUV100 at Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) which makes one of the most affordable EVs in India. Powering the eKUV100 is a 15.9kWh lithium-ion batter which is mated to a 40kW electric motor that delivers 53bhp and a peak torque of 120Nm. Developed in collaboration with LG Chem, Mahindra claims a range of 120km on a single-charge.

Funster

Mahindra has also unveiled a hardtop convertible SUV concept, the Funster which has two doors and a small wind deflector replacing a conventional windscreen. Up at the front, there is a mild signature that highlights Mahindra’s grille.

The Funster is powered by a 59.2kWh battery pack that delivers power to two electric motors which are placed on each axle. Mahindra claims that the power output is 312bhp and the Funster can sprint from 0-100kmph in under 5 seconds. Mahindra also claims that the range is 520km on full charge and has a top speed of 200kmph.

The Atom

Mahindra also showcased the Atom which is an electric quadricycle. We had already spotted the test mules on social media and finally the production EV has been revealed at the Auto Expo. Although no technical specifications are out yet, Mahindra has claimed that it will be powered by Mahindra’s electric drive system on a monocoque body and will feature a 4G ready connectivity system.

I am also delighted that Mahindra’s showcase this year reflects our commitment to the ‘Make In India’ philosophy while developing globally relevant mobility solutions.”

Mahindra also showcased its new mStallion series of T-GDI engines, which will be made in three capacities - 1.2-litre, 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre. The TGDi engines have been developed and designed in India. Ford and SsangYong will also use Mahindra's mStallion T-GDI engine in the future..
