Samsung's flagship smartphone line gets improvements to cameras, processors and more

Samsung has launched its latest Galaxy S line of flagship smartphones today. As expected these include the S23, the S23 Plus and the top-of-the-line S23 Ultra. All the three phones feature custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets with no word of an Exynos processor powering the smartphones in any market.

Cameras are a big talking point for any new S Series phone, but this time around, Samsung has one-upped itself with the Samsung Isocell 200-megapixel sensor in the flagship Galaxy S23 Ultra. Pixel-binning will help deliver manageable image sizes, but the sheer size of the sensor means that better low-light performance and sharper photos overall should be a given. The S23 Ultra gets four rear cameras with the 200MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide and 10MP 3x and 10x telephotos. On the S23 and S23 Plus, the 50MP main cameras remain with the 12MP ultrawide and the 10MP telephoto good for 3X.

The S23 Ultra now gets a 200MP primary sensor

Major changes to the design include a redesign of the camera bump. Unlike last year, where the S22 had a camera island of sorts, this time around Samsung has decided to let go of it and just have the camera lenses protruding slightly out the back. The S23 Ultra, unlike its two siblings, curves around the edges and that definitely makes it easier to hold such a large phone.

Apart from the updated processor, the S23 and the S23 Plus get a bump in battery life

The S23 continues to get a 6.1-inch 1080p 120Hz display and the S23 Plus continues to keep the same 6.6-inch display with specs the same as the S23 while the Ultra, as expected gets a 6.8-inch 1440p AMOLED display. The S23 and S23 Plus, as is the norm, continue to be small and large versions of the same smartphone for the most part.

While the S23 and S23 Plus do get a bump up in battery size, the S23 Ultra stays at 5000mAh. An important distinction is the 45W charging speed for the Plus and the Ultra variants as compared to the 25W on the regular S23. RAM and storage options for all the variants stay the same with 8GB RAM for the S23 and S23 Plus and upto 12GB for the S23 Ultra. Storage options range from 256GB to 1TB (for the S23 Ultra).

Prices for the Samsung S23 range start at Rs 74,999 for the base 8GB/128GB configuration, bumping the storage up to 256GB will cost Rs 79,999. The S23 Plus will cost Rs 94,999 for the 8GB/256GB configuration while the 8GB/512GB will cost Rs 1.05 lakh. Prices for the S23 Ultra are as follows, Rs 1.25 lakh for the 12GB/256GB spec, Rs 1.35 lakh for the 12GB/512GB spec and the top-end 12GB/1TB spec will cost you Rs 1.55 lakh.
