Day 25: Two states, two Union Territories and a beach

Afzal Rawuther

We took to the road again for the final leg of what has been a truly amazing road trip so far. Expecting at least 10 hours of driving we started early at 5am. The plan was to drive to Mumbai and then head onwards to Baroda in Gujarat. The drive to Mumbai was a breeze, the expressway being relatively free, and we made good progress. However, soon we were stuck in traffic near the infamous Ghodbunder section and lost hours just trying to get out of it. The roads got better but a torrential downpour met us and stayed for the better part of the day.

The Kwids enjoyed doing triple digit speeds on the brilliant highways in Gujarat and overtaking was surprisingly easy too. The traffic and the rain slowed us down for sure but we did get to two union territories Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. The beach at Daman was off bounds due to the monsoons and the resultant high water level. But that didn’t stop us from dipping our toes in the water and taking a stroll on the beach. We headed to Dadra and Nagar Haveli and a few photo ops later were back on the road. Again as luck would have it, another traffic jam. A few more hours lost and the day soon turned out to be longer than anticipated, with close to 17 hours on the road. We grabbed a few burgers and pushed on to the hotel. And instantly dozed off. Tomorrow would bring us to Rajasthan via Madhya Pradesh and with that we would successfully complete the 29 States 29 Days challenge well ahead of time.
