10 new cars launched during the lockdown

As India switched to BS6 amidst of the coronavirus lockdown, manufacturers were forced to launch several cars digitally. Here's a list of car launches that happened during the lockdown

The coronavirus pandemic has forced the entire country into a lockdown. But that hasn’t stopped car manufacturers from launching BS6 updates for some popular nameplates. The transition from BS4 to BS6 is mandatory for all automotive manufacturers and certainly, every one of them is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that BS6 updated variants are ready as soon as the lockdown lifts. We here at evo India bring you a list of all the new launches during the lockdown, just in case you missed any.

1) Maruti Suzuki Celerio X

In the BS6 version, the hatch from Maruti Suzuki is offered with a 1-litre engine that churns out 69bhp and 90Nm of torque and is offered with the option of a five-speed manual transmission or an AMT. The new version is available in 4 variants and comes with a price hike of Rs 15,000. The Celerio X comes with a starting price of Rs 4.90 lakh.

2) Mahindra KUV100 NXT

Now Mahindra in its BS6 update has discontinued the diesel option in the KUV100 lineup. The BS6 version is only offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 82bhp and 115Nm of torque. The KUV100 NXT is available only with a 5-speed manual transmission. The KUV100 NXT comes with a tag of Rs 5.50 lakh.

Mahindra in its BS6 update has discontinued the diesel option in the KUV100 lineup.

3) Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS CNG

The BS6 CNG version of the Grand i-10 Nios was launched after the BS6 petrol version was launched earlier in March. It makes 10bhp less than the petrol version, producing 66bhp and 95Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission which is the only gearbox option available with the CNG version. The Grand i10 NIOS starts at Rs 6.63 lakh.

The BS6 CNG version of the Grand i10 NIOS was launched after the BS6 petrol version was launched earlier in March.

4) Hyundai Verna

The Hyundai Verna BS6 gets a facelift as well making it the only one in the list to get some changes over its BS4 version. The 2020 Hyundai Verna with BS6 upgrade is offered with three powertrain options, a 1.5-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre diesel and an enthusiast-friendly 1-litre turbo-petrol. The engines produce 115bhp, 115bhp and 120bhp, respectively. The Verna can be had with a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, CVT or a seven-speed DCT. The standard variants get some cosmetic changes while the turbo-petrol instead gets turbo badging on the outside with some sporty accents on the interiors. The 2020 Hyundai Verna starts at Rs 10.66 lakh.

5) MG Hector diesel

The Hector in the diesel variant gets a 2-litre BS6 engine that churns out 170bhp and 350Nm of torque which is paired to a six-speed manual and is only available in this gearbox option. The Hector continues to borrow its engine from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and with the BS6 update comes with a price hike of Rs 44,000. The Hector in the BS6 update comes with a sticker price of Rs 17.44 lakh.

The Hector in the diesel variant gets a 2.0-litre BS6 engine.

6) Mahindra Bolero

Mahindra Bolero also gets a BS6 upgrade with few cosmetic updates. The BS6 Bolero is powered by a mHawk75 engine that makes it more powerful than the BS4 version. The BS6 Bolero is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 75bhp and 210Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The Mahindra Bolero is now available at a starting price of Rs 7.79 lakh.

Mahindra Bolero also gets a BS6 upgrade with few cosmetic updates.

7) Mahindra Scorpio

The Mahindra Scorpio after its BS6 update no longer gets the 2.2-litre mHawk engine in the lower state of tune that produced 120bhp of power. The 2.5-litre unit has also been discontinued. The BS6 now is only available with a 2.2-litre mHawk engine which produces 140bhp. The Scorpio now comes with a six-speed manual transmission only and also loses its AWD option on higher-end trims. The BS6 Scorpio will have the S5 variant as the entry-level variant in the lineup while the S3 variant has been discontinued. In order to comply with the BS6 norms the Scorpio now gets a catalytic converter with a dedicated urea tank that was previewed in the BS6 version of XUV300. The Scorpio now is available at Rs 11.98 lakh.

The Mahindra Scorpio after its BS6 update no longer gets the 2.2-litre mHawk engine in the lower state of tune that produced 120bhp.

8) Mahindra XUV500

BS6 version of the Mahindra XUV 500 is available only with a six-speed manual transmission. It is expected to come with an automatic transmission soon but there is no official statement about it for now. The XUV 500 in its BS6 version will be available in a single powertrain option - 2.2-litre diesel engine that churns out 153bhp and 360Nm of torque. Along with the Scorpio, the XUV500 also loses the AWD option for now. Both the Scorpio as well as the XUV500 are expected to receive thorough updates soon. The XUV500 starts at Rs 13.14 lakh.

BS6 version of the Mahindra XUV 500 is available only with a six-speed manual transmission.

9) Mahindra Alturas G4

The Alturas G4 BS6 only gets a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 178bhp and 420Nm of torque and is paired to a seven-speed automatic transmission. With few minor tweaks inside and out, the Alturas G4 also gets a price hike of Rs 1 lakh compared to the previous BS4 versions. The Alturas G4 starts at Rs 28.69 lakh.

The Alturas G4 now gets a BS6 version that is now available in single powertrain option that is a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

10) Jeep Compass

The BS6 Jeep Compass loses the entry-level Sport, mid-range Longitude (O) and certain limited edition variants. With the BS6 update, the Compass gets a hike of Rs 89,000 in petrol variants and Rs 1.38 lakh on diesel variants over the BS4 variants. The BS6 Jeep Compass is available at a starting price of Rs 16.99 lakh.

The BS6 version of Compass loses the entry-level Sport, mid-range Longitude(O) and certain limited edition variants.

There are certain car manufacturers that have launched or teased their BS6 updates but haven’t launched them officially. Skoda has started accepting bookings for the Superb facelift while BMW will be launching the 8-Series Gran Coupe and the M8 shortly as well.
