Skoda’s Rapid Rider received a overwhelming response when it was launched at Rs 7.49 lakh earlier this year and now the stocks are already sold out until September. Thus, the new Rider Plus variant currently sits at the bottom of the range costing an extra 50,000 rupees but gets much-needed updates including a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, to begin with.

The Rider Plus variant also features subtle cosmetic updates over the Rider including a trunk lip garnish, blacked-out B-pillar, chrome garnish for the windows and door decals. It retains the 15in wheels though. However, the 2DIN system has been replaced with a 6.5in touchscreen infotainment system that has been picked up from the Ambition trim. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto a standard.

In terms of the mechanical changes, there are none. The Rider Plus gets the same 1-litre, threepot motor that is standard across the range. It churns out 109bhp and 175Nm and if you’d like to know how it fares in the real world, you can read our review here.

Commenting on the introduction of the Rider Plus variant, Mr. Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India said, “Skoda Auto India recently introduced the new Rapid TSI range of products that now boasts state of the art 1.0 TSI petrol engine offering exceptional power output and excellent fuel economy. An overwhelming response from brand loyalists and auto enthusiasts from across the nation has obligated the Czech marque to push the yardstick further and broaden the Rapid range. The Rider Plus offers a compelling combination of the brand’s emotive design, exquisite interiors and class leading safety features, at a very competitive price point. It is deemed to be a best seller setting the benchmark for functionality, practicality and spaciousness in its segment.”

The Rapid is expected to be launched with the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox by September which is already seen on the Volkswagen Vento.
