The message is clear – electrification is nearer than you thought and this year’s Geneva Motor Show is proof of that. Mitsubishi pulled the wraps off its crossover hybrid SUV concept christened ‘Engelberg Tourer’, named after the famous ski resort in central region of Switzerland.  The company is working  to “enhance customers’ lives through the electrification of vehicles.”

The concept car features a hybrid powertrain – a 2.4-litre petrol engine and two electric motors. Power figures are not available but Mitsubishi says that the SUV will feature 4WD and taking a leaf out of the Lancer Evolution Series, the concept uses active yaw control to split the torque between the front wheels. This also reduces wheel spin and increases stability in slippery conditions, says Mitsubishi.

Since it is a PHEV, the range of the SUV with a full tank of petrol and full charge is nearly 700km (claimed). In pure electric drive mode, the SUV has a range of 70km, according to the company. The fog lamps are located on the roof box and the front and rear bumper get skid plates. The concept car has three rows of seating and it boasts of a spacious cabin.
