Mercedes-AMG arguably has one of the most tempting portfolios of performance cars globally. With the lockdown restrictions being eased, Mercedes-Benz India has resumed operations with a bang, by launching the C 63 AMG Coupe at Rs 1.33 crore, ex-showroom, pan India. The performance version of the C-Class Coupe was launched digitally today alongside the AMG GT R. The C 63 AMG sedan was sold in India until early 2019 before being discontinued, and now its coupe version fills the void.

Design

We know what the ‘63’ badge usually brings to the table and we’ll talk about the powertrain in bit. But before that let’s talk about the design that reflects the monstrosity of the motor that lies under the hood. There’s the classic coupe roofline and the effect is accentuated by the long bonnet and AMG detailing. The AMG body styling mainly includes the blacked-out air dams, panamericana radiator grille, quad exhaust tips and the AMG spoiler lip at the rear that reduces lift and aids in neutral handling at high speeds. Adding to the aggressive appeal are also the 19-inch wheels with 10 spokes and matt black paint.

Performance

Under the hood lies a monster, the 4-litre biturbo V8 that also powers its other ‘63’ badged siblings as well as the AMG GT R. In the C 63 AMG Coupe this engine produces 469bhp and a massive 650Nm of torque, helping it race to a 100kmph in just 4 seconds and to an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph. Transferring all the power to the rear wheels is the AMG Speedshift 9-speed dual clutch transmission. Other technologies improving performance include adaptive dampers, ceramic brakes, rear limited slip differential and a performance exhaust that lets you change the sound of the vehicle at the push of a button.

Heart of the matter

Features

The C 63 gets multi-beam LEDs on the front with 84 LEDs in each unit. On the inside, the all black cabin layout with sporty touches all around make things even more dramatic. There’s the four spoke AMG performance steering wheel with touch capacitive buttons to toggle through the menus on the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. There’s a fully digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster with three display styles – classic, sporty and aggressive along with a heads-up display as well.

Tasteful elements in the cabin of the C 63 Coupe

In the centre console, there’s the typical drive selector to select between different modes – comfort, sport, sport+, slippery as well as individual settings. There’s also a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, Burmester premium surround sound system, panoramic sunroof and ventilated seats among others. And lastly the Nappa leather seats are designed for better lateral support with pronounced side bolstering.

Like most Mercedes-AMG cars, there are a host of personalisation options available with the C 63 AMG including 14 features options, four trims, four steering wheel choices, four colours and five alloy wheels. As of now there are no direct rivals to the C 63 AMG in India and that puts it in a unique position. That said with the addition of the C 63 AMG, the C-Class range is now more comprehensive and exciting than before.
