FCA to invest USD 250 million in India, four locally assembled Jeep SUVs in the pipeline

New Jeep Compass, a three-row Jeep, next generation Grand Cherokee and a locally assembled Wrangler have all been confirmed for India launch

There’s big news coming in from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. With the brand’s eyes set on expanding its footprint in the Indian market, FCA has confirmed an investment of USD 250 million towards the production of four new Jeep SUVs. The line-up will include the 2021 Jeep Compass, a locally manufactured and seven-seater SUV, as well as the Jeep Wrangler and the next generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, both of which will be locally assembled at FCA’s plant in Ranjangaon, on the outskirts of Pune.

The 2021 Jeep Compass facelift is set for reveal on January 7 and production has already commenced while the seven-seater Jeep, codenamed H6 will be launched in 2022. Commenting on the announcement, FCA India MD, Dr. Partha Datta said, “Our new investment of USD 250 million will give us a competitive edge in multiple segments with our new Jeep SUVs rolling out of Ranjangaon. This investment is in addition to USD 450 million we have already committed to our Indian operations over the past five years. We are delighted to announce our exciting new products, coupled with our continued commitment to India in Jeep brand’s 80th anniversary year”

The announcement showcases FCA’s commitment towards the Indian market that as we all know, has a great potential for SUVs. Moreover, local assembly will allow competitive pricing of iconic SUVs like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
