Mini has unveiled the new generation John Cooper Works (JCW) Countryman, with updated styling, features and engine. It is bigger than before, and is claimed to have enhanced comfort. Mini highlights the car's impressive drag coefficient of 0.26, establishing it as one of the most aerodynamic vehicles in its class
In terms of performance the Mini Countryman JCW is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine sending power to an ‘ALL4’ all-wheel drive system. The engine produces 296bhp and 400Nm that is 70bhp more than the standard Countryman and is 11bhp more potent than the outgoing Countryman JCW. The 0-100kmph time is 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph. Notably, the JCW now sports a seven-speed automatic DCT gearbox, departing from the previous eight-speed automatic. Standard features include sport suspension, reducing the ride height by 16mm, and an enhanced "high-performance braking system”. The Countryman JCW comes with a Go-Kart mode which puts the Countryman into its sportiest setting, which includes an artificially boosted engine note.
It’s only available in ‘Sport Trim’, with bespoke bumpers front and rear, and a contrasting roof and bonnet stripes. The latest Countryman features a prominent double-height grille with several upright design elements for a more robust and elevated look. The JCW model introduces a redesigned logo, emphasising vertical elements that extend to the rear of the car, where pixel-like optics illuminate vertical rear lights. The Union Jack design is also now more subtly integrated in the design. The vehicle's JCW status is emphasised by a doubled exhaust-tip count, now featuring four tips, and it rides on wider 245-section tires mounted on 19 or 20-inch JCW-specific wheels equipped with standard uprated, 'high-performance' brakes with Chili Red brake callipers.
The interior design of the cabin gets a more minimalist approach. Vertical elements have been incorporated in the inside as well in the form of vertical door handles and air vents. The dashboard boasts a two-tone black and red recycled polyester textile. The sport seats are upholstered in black, with red stitching that feature JCW emblems front and rear. The steering wheel is unique to the JCW as well, with silver accents and further red stitching. A 9.4-inch central OLED touchscreen display is prominently placed at the forefront that now facilitates control of a range of features. Creation of unique ambiances through 'Mini Experience Modes,' including the Go Kart mode. In addition to that, the interior also gets two-zone climate control, sliding rear seats, heated front seats, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control plus a new set of driving modes.
Mini's latest launch, the John Cooper Works (JCW) Countryman joins the third-gen Countryman lineup that consists of a fully electric model and a petrol powered model, both of which have all-wheel drive capabilities. With a new high performance engine, aggressive styling elements, and advanced features like the Go-Kart mode, the new Countryman JCW promises an exhilarating driving experience. The sleek interior design and enhanced comfort and aerodynamics further solidifies its position as a standout option in the crossover segment.
