KTM has unveiled the 1390 Super Duke R and 1390 Super Duke R Evo, both of which feature a new design language reminiscent of the recently unveiled 990 Duke. Along with the new design, these motorcycles have a slew of hardware changes and engine updates.

The KTM 1390 Super Duke R and Evo 2024 have undergone significant visual changes that bring them more in line with the Duke 990. The update includes a vertically-stacked LED headlight unit, new tank spoilers, and winglets, all contributing to a more commanding appearance. The size of the subframe cover has been reduced while covering the brake light for a more streamlined appearance.

The 1390 model retains the frame from the 1290 Super Duke R, but the suspension has been revised for the most recent iteration. The 'R' version comes standard with 48mm WP Apex forks with adjustable compression, rebound, and preload. Its improved rear shock includes separate adjustments for high and low-speed compression damping, as well as other features. Meanwhile, the Evo model, like its 1290 Evo predecessor, features WP's 3rd-generation Apex SAT semi-active suspension. This system, which uses magnetic valves, allows for variable damping and real-time adaptation across five selectable modes (auto, comfort, rain, street, and sport) controlled from the dashboard. The 'Suspension Pro' feature, which is optional, adds automatic preload adjustment to adapt to varying weight loads on the bike, as well as an anti-dive function that stiffens the front end during hard braking. KTM will launch a 'Factory Start' system inspired by MotoGP in 2024, automatically adjusting rear preload and ride height when stopped to optimise launch performance. Both versions of the bike are outfitted with new Michelin Power GP tyres. The brakes and clutch hydraulics are supplied by Brembo, which includes Stylema monobloc callipers for the two 320mm front discs and a 240mm rear disc paired with an MCS master cylinder.

KTM has improved the engine of the 2024 model, increasing the stroke from 108mm to 110mm and thus increasing the displacement to 1350cc. This change has increased the power output of the updated engine to 187bhp and 145Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox equipped with a slip-and-assist clutch. KTM has developed a 'cam shift' system that acts as a variable valve timing mechanism within the cylinder heads. By allowing the valves to open at two distinct levels, this technology optimises power and torque across the engine's rev range. As a result, the engine produces 10bhp and 5Nm more than its predecessor, the older 1290 Duke, while still meeting the most recent emission standards.

Electronics revisions now include the addition of a tyre pressure monitoring system. Rain, Street, Sport, Performance, and Track are the five riding modes available on the bike, with the latter two available as optional extras. Cruise control and KTMConnect functionality are integrated into the Performance mode. Optional extras also include Engine Brake Control and the 5-step adjustable Wheelie Control function.

The Super Duke R and Evo both get a 5-inch TFT dash. KTM has retained several safety features from the 1290 model, such as lean-sensitive ABS, traction control, wheelie control, slide control, and launch control, albeit with refinements.
