Bajaj Freedom 125, world's first CNG bike, launched at ₹95,000

Bajaj Auto has finally launched its much-awaited CNG motorcycle. Christened ‘Freedom 125’, it's targeted at mileage-conscious buyers.

Indian auto major Bajaj Auto has finally taken the wraps of its highly anticipated CNG bike called the Freedom 125. The bike has been coming for a long time, and the brand finally spilt all the beans we have been waiting for. Freedom is the world's first CNG motorcycle that could mark its dominance in the entry-level motorcycle segment. The prices start from ₹95,000 for the drum variant with a halogen headlight and go up to ₹1.10 lakh for the top-end variant with a front disc and an LED headlight. The CNG bike will initially be available in Maharashtra and Gujarat, and it will expand its presence across the country in a phased manner. 

The Freedom gets a 125cc horizontally mounted engine that produces 9.3bhp of peak power and 9.7Nm of torque. This mill gets a CNG-petrol hybrid tech, with a provision to switch to any of the modes on the go. It gets a 2-litre petrol tank that has a claimed fuel efficiency of 65kmpl and a 2-litre CNG tank with a claimed mileage of 102km/kg. The total combined claimed range is 330km. There is the same fuel cap for petrol and CNG.

On the styling front, the Freedom 125 gets a hexagonal headlight, with rounded edges, which is flanked by elements of the chassis. It gets an upright handlebar and a horizontal LCD cluster. The bike boasts a sculpted tank and with a 785mm long seat which Bajaj claims is the longest in class. At the rear, the bike gets a tiny tail light, an upswept grab rail and a stubby exhaust. The Freedom 125 also gets a bash plate which looks ace.

The bike has been designed uniquely, wherein the CNG tank is smartly placed under the seat optimising the weight distribution. It gets a telescopic forks at the front and a linked monoshock at the rear. The bike weighs 147kgs and has a seat height of 825mm. The Freedom 125 has undergone 11 safety tests. Rajiv Bajaj, in his speech, assured the brand's support throughout the product's lifecycle. Bookings for the Freedom 125 have already begun today, and can be made through Bajaj's dealers or through its official website.
