Bajaj has reprised the iconic Chetak brand in the form of an all-new electric scooter. The tech specs and prices haven’t been announced as of yet but all we know is that the Chetak will be sold through Bajaj’s Probiking outlets, starting January 2020.

What do we know so far? The Chetak is powered by a IP67 compliant Li-ion battery with NCA cells; which means, it’ll be properly water-resistant to start with. The battery can charged using the standard household 5-15 amp electric outlets and provides a range of 85-95km depending on the riding mode.

The Chetak gets two riding modes—Eco and Sport and an ingenious reverse assist mode. The e-scooter also comes with regenerative braking to milk out the maximum range. With the help of Chetak mobile app, riders can check a comprehensive overview of the ride and vehicle history. Adding to the list are security features which also includes user authentication.

Though the new Chetak does not resemble the original scooter, the styling remains retro, very much on the lines of the Vespas and the Yamaha Fascino. It gets all-LED illumination with LED DRL and a digital instrument cluster. The Chetak gets a full metal body, a single-sided swingarm and an off-set monoshock. The brand is also offering a home-charging station at a nominal cost.

Bajaj had flagged off the ‘Chetak Electric Yatra’ on October 16 when the e-scooter was unveiled. After almost a month, the ride concluded today at the company’s Chakan plant.

Though Bajaj has not revealed the pricing, the Bajaj Chetak is likely to bridge the gap between cheaper electric scooters like Avan Motors Xero, Greaves Ampere Zeal and the Ather 450.
