Jeep India recently unveiled the facelifted Compass in India. First launched in 2017, the Compass never went through any significant changes, except for the addition of a Trailhawk variant to the lineup. The recent facelift of the Compass did shake up things, added a lot more kit and a fresh face and now we finally know how much you need to shell out for the extra goodies. Jeep has announced prices for the new Compass, and it demands a premium of Rs 50,000 over the previous iteration. Before we get to the variant-wise pricing of the Compass, let’s take a look at what’s new.

Now gets body coloured plastic cladding over the wheel arches

On the outside, the overall silhouette of the facelift Compass is the same as the previous iteration, while it gets updates like a redesigned bumper, LED headlamps with DRLs, LED taillamps and a body-coloured plastic cladding on the wheel arches.

On the inside, the Compass undergoes some major updates like a rework of the dashboard layout, a floating 10.1-inch infotainment screen, a fully-digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster and redesigned switchgear across the cabin. It also gets snazzy air-con vents, 360-degree cameras, voice control and wireless charging. The 2021 Compass will be the first product to get Jeep’s latest U-Connect-5 user interface which gets over-the-air updates.

Under the hood, the Compass gets an option of two BS6 compliant engines. The first is a 2-litre diesel engine that makes 167bhp and 350Nm and comes paired to either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission. The second powertrain on offer is a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit that produces 157bhp and 250Nm, which also gets the choice of a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Jeep has priced the facelift Compass at Rs 16.99 lakh for the entry-level Sport variant and goes up to Rs 24.49 lakh for the range-topping Model S variant. The Jeep Compass goes up against the likes of Tata Harrier and Hyundai Tucson and there is some overlap with SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The Compass is one of the only offerings in this space to get a four-wheel-drive system and some proper off-road ability, which also serves as its USP.
