Over the years, the Madras Motor Racing Track in Irungattukottai has been given a major revamp, from restoration of the tarmac to adding a full-fledged dirt track which is still under process. As per Vicky Chandhok, the Vice president of the Madras Motor Sports Club, “We have always set the standards of motor racing in India, and we want to raise it further”. To raise the standards further, the club plans to kick off night races under flood lights, along with an endurance racing format. Unlike the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore which is bright enough to call it a day, the agenda here is to have only enough lighting for the marshals to spot the cars properly. Headlights for these races would be mandatory, which mean there is a high chance of having an Indian Touring car or a Saloon car race during the night, soon.

There will be a test and evaluation session on August 7, 2019 to determine whether the project is a go. The president also confirmed the possibility of an endurance racing series for cars which would be similar to the popular 24 Hours of Le Mans. To make racing more interesting, the track may also be run in anti-clockwise direction for which 56 changes need to be made to the barriers and armo to meet safety standards.
