The Federation of Motor Sports Club in India has announced the reintroduction of ‘One Event’ licenses for Open events. Under the FMSCI one event license rule, the license will be valid for one event for which the license is issued irrespective of the number of days. This step has been taken by the FMSCI to attract a wider audience and to encourage grassroots level events.

What sort of licenses did participants get before this?

The FMSCI one event license will be valid for the number of days the event takes place

Until now, participants had to apply for a license which would be valid for the entire year. Currently in the two wheeler category the fees of applying for a 2W Restricted license is Rs 1250 (inclusive of GST) whereas a 2W Full license will cost Rs 2000 (inclusive of GST). In the four wheeler category, 4W Racing/Drag/Autocross/Hill Climb license will cost Rs 3750 (inclusive of GST). These licenses were valid till December 31 of the year in question, and cost the same regardless of which month you applied in and how many events you wanted to participate in.

Why ‘One Event’ licenses?

Under the FMSCI one event license rule, participants will no longer need a medical certificate

With the ‘One Event’ license rule, participants now get the option of applying for a single event license which will be valid for only the particular event that the participant has applied for. This means that unlike in previous cases where the license would be valid for an entire year, the one event license would be valid only for the number of days the event is held. This will not only be more affordable, but it also requires less paperwork, as there will be no need to obtain a medical certificate from a doctor. This step has been taken by the FMSCI to attract a wider audience and encourage events at a grassroots level where usually entries are accepted at the last minute.

How will this work?

The FMSCI one event license costs just Rs 250 irrespective of the participant's category

Clubs that want to host events with One Event licenses need to buy these licenses from the FMSCI. It is the responsibility of the club then, to ensure that the participants turning up for the event fill out the license application forms properly. Once the forms are filled out, the clubs will issue participants a license on the spot. For the sake of the FMSCI’s records, the clubs will need to send the entry lists along with the One Time license applications to the FMSCI. If the club bought surplus licenses that weren’t issued during the year, they can return it to the FMSCI before the end of the year (December 31, to be precise) to get a refund. The one event license is Rs 250 for both 2W and 4W (inclusive of GST), which is far more affordable than the full licenses. The availability of the one event licenses to the clubs will be known soon after the lockdown gets lifted.
