Mahindra Racing Driver Lucas Di Grassi talks about the first race of Season 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and also his first outing with the Indian team

Team Evo India

Wow, what a first event I had as a Mahindra Racing driver in the FIA ABB Formula E World Championship. To score my first pole for the team, and the first pole of the brand new Gen3 era, as well as finishing third in the race was a dream. After a tough pre-season, it is a testimony to the hard work the team are putting in to make the car the best we can. I gave it my all and I know the team did too.

Having said that, we now quickly switch focus to the next race weekend in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia. This weekend is a double header, meaning there are two qualifying sessions and two races across the event. The Formula E schedule is compact, but I love it as it really adds to the atmosphere and tension, which I thrive on. In Diriyah, we need to focus on high-speed stability. It will be less energy critical than Mexico but with potentially more issues with the tyres, especially because it is a night race. The Saudi track is very difficult and has different characteristics to the Mexico City circuit so we need to be able to adapt. As we are racing at night, it does mean the temperatures will be slightly cooler during the race, which is always a bonus in such a hot country!

While I was very happy to leave Mexico with such a strong result, this is just the beginning. We need to be consistent with our results and we have got to work hard for it as the competition is fierce. We have to keep the momentum but also continue improving, while focussing on the long term evolution of the team.
