After undergoing a pre-race change of the gearbox components, Jerome D Ambrosio and Pascal Wehrlein were all set to pilot their #64 and #94 respectively for the sixth Mexico City E-Prix. Both the cars started off at the back of the grid as the cars were given a 40-place grid penalty with Pascal having to take a drive-through and Jerome a 10-second stop-and-go during the race in addition to starting at the back of the grid at 24th and 23rd respectively. Mahindra had put up a strong performance in qualifying with Pascal recording a fourth consecutive Super Pole and setting a record of the third-fastest session.

Race Start

During the race, both the drivers headed to their pits on the first lap to serve their respective penalties. The team was rewarded for this strategy after the Safety Car was deployed while recovering Nick Muler’s stuck ‘Dragon’. Restarting on the fourth lap, both the drivers started moving up the order making the most out of an action-packed 45-minutes of racing with several retirements that occured along with some accidents taking place. Pascal and Jerome finished at 9th and 10th respectively.

“Difficult weekend for the Team”

Pascal and Jerome described the weekend as a difficult one for the team. Starting with a penalty was definitely not a good start but the team turned the tables as they managed to score some points and performed exceptionally well. Team principal, Dilbagh Singh said that it was a tough challenge for them due to penalties and recovering from them, the team did the best they could do. Pascal and Jerome along with their team principal are looking forward to Marrakesh now where the team has won in the past two seasons and has fond memories.

Final Result

Mexico City E-Prix ended up with Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans winning it with DS Techeetah’s Antonio Felix Da Costa in second position and Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi in third.
