Indian national racing and rally champion Amittrajit Ghosh has announced that he will be taking part in the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) 2018. He will be representing Team RRPM and will be seen driving a Ford Fiesta R2 along with co driver Ashwin Naik, where the duo will be competing in the two-wheel drive ERC3 category.
On 19 May, he will be taking part in the all-gravel Talsi-Rally of Champions in Latvia which will give him a chance to understand the car better. With the participation in the ERC 2018, Amittrajit Ghosh will become the first Indian to take part in the European Rally Championship. Amittrajit Ghosh will also be taking part in the EKO Acropolis rally in Greece from June 1 to June 3 which serves as a prologue to the FIA ERC 2019 season. Amittrajit Ghosh and Ashwin Naik also took part in the first round of INRC 2018 in Chennai, in their rally prepped XUV500 and were placed second overall.
An elated Amittrajit Ghosh from Team RRPM said, “It is a proud moment to be competing in the European Rally Championship. Our aim will be to gather valuable miles and experience through this year in preparation for an all-out assault in the next. I want to thank RRPM for getting us here and our new sponsor, Pana Education, for coming on board at this important juncture of our career.”
Jean-Baptiste Ley, the ERC co-ordinator said, “Amittrajit Ghosh’s decision to choose the ERC to build his experience of international competition is further proof of the championship’s widespread appeal and the successful role it plays in helping drivers to progress. And by choosing the ERC, Amittrajit can test himself on challenging, well-run rallies and against a strong line-up of drivers. Furthermore, with NEO Sports broadcasting highlights of the ERC in India, Amittrajit’s commercial partners will be able to get a return on their investment.”
It has been a good run for motorsports in the country lately. Last month, five-time Indian National Rally Champion Gaurav Gill had announced that he will be competing in World Rally Championship (WRC) in the WRC2 category in partnership with Team MRF, where he will be piloting the Ford Fiesta R5.
