The Maruti Suzuki Dzire is Maruti Suzuki’s latest product and it has already been making the headlines thanks to its 5-star GNCAP crash safety rating, making it the first Maruti Suzuki car to achieve this rating. But how does it fare on paper against its rivals in the sub-4m compact sedan segment? To find out, we pitted the Dzire against its main rivals – the Honda Amaze, the Tata Tigor and the Hyundai Aura – in this price and spec comparison.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs rivals dimensions

When it comes to the dimensions, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has an overall length of 3995mm, with a width of 1735mm and a height of 1525mm. The wheelbase of the compact sedan is 2450mm. In comparison, the Honda Amaze is the same length as the Dzire but boasts a longer wheelbase at 2470mm – which should translate to more room for the rear seat passengers. However the Honda is narrower in width and shorter in height than the Dzire at 1695mm and 1501mm respectively. The Tata Tigor is marginally shorter than the Dzire at 3993mm and narrower in width, at 1677mm. However, the Tata is taller than the Dzire at 1532mm, and has the same wheelbase as the Dzire at 2450mm. When it comes to the Hyundai Aura, it is as long as the Dzire in overall length, while also being wider than the Dzire at 1680mm. The overall height is marginally shorter at 1520mm, while the wheelbase is the same as the Dzire.

Powering the Dzire is the same 1.2-litre 3-cyl Z-series engine that produces 80.4bhp of power, and this engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT. You also have the option of a CNG powertrain. The Honda Amaze, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine that produces 88.5bhp and is mated to either a 5-speed manual. This makes it the most powerful sedan in this lot and it is also the only sedan in this selection to be offered with a CVT as well. The Tata Tigor is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 84.4bhp of power and is mated to a 5-speed manual or an AMT. The Tigor is also offered with a CNG powertrain, and a first-in segment option of a CNG powertrain mated to an AMT. The Hyundai Aura is powered by a 1.2-litre nat-asp petrol engine that produces 81.8bhp of power and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, with the option of a CNG powertrain.

In terms of features, each of these sedans are pretty much evenly matched, though the new Dzire does have an edge with its 360-degree camera and sunroof, offered for the first time on the Dzire. All these sedans offer infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and automatic climate control, though Honda and Tata claw ahead with the choice of transmissions. The Honda Amaze gets the option of a CVT automatic, which is smoother compared to the AMTs offered on the other sedans. However, the Tata Tigor is offered with the choice of an AMT even on the CNG variant, combining the lower running costs with the convenience of an automatic.
