Long term review: Maruti Suzuki Ertiga - Introduction

The smallest guy in the evo India team gets the keys to the largest car from the Maruti Suzuki stables

This month we welcome the all-new Maruti Suzuki Ertiga to our long-term fleet. And I’m pleased to report that the new Ertiga is a massive step ahead from the previous car. It’s feature packed and boasts some really good quality materials in the cabin. And now there’s acres of space in the second and the third rows. My little daughter just loves to jump around in this roomy cabin!

After a few tiring days at work, snapping everything between supercars and some cool bikes, it was time to seek some hilltop rejuvenation. So I headed to Mahabaleshwar with my family, driving the new Ertiga. Having seven people and their luggage to accommodate, we earlier thought of taking two cars.

That idea was soon dropped as the Ertiga turned out to be spacious enough. Adding to the comfort in this scorching heat was the excellent air con system and the cooled twin cup holders.

In the city, the Ertiga’s light steering and tractable engine made it snake around the traffic quite easily. On the highway too, inspite of the car being fully loaded with luggage and people, it comfortably did triple-digit speeds. On the twisty mountain roads leading to Mahabaleshwar, the Ertiga never felt underpowered. All of the 103bhp and 138Nm from the 1.5-litre petrol, coupled to the mild-hybrid tech make it quite peppy.

It only took a few days for the Ertiga to earn the title of being my family’s preferred car. And the company’s solid reliability and after sales network means that we would have less to worry about in the future as well. Good job Maruti Suzuki!
