In a bid to inject some interest in its line-up, Toyota recently launched the Fortuner TRD, and Ford followed it up with the Endeavour Sport – both SUVs have the same mechanicals as the standard cars but get blacked out bits to make them look sportier. In terms of sales, the Fortuner has been trounced the Endeavour Sport but could this shake things up? In this story, we’re comparing the two on the basis of the dimensions, styling, powertrain and features to see how they square off on paper.
Dimensions: Toyota Fortuner TRD vs Ford Endeavour Sport
The Endeavour Sport is 4903mm in length, 1869mm in width and 1837mm in height while the Fortuner TRD is 4795mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1835mm in height. The wheelbase of the Endeavour Sport is 2850mm whereas the latter gets a wheelbase of 2745mm. Even the boot space, that the Endeavour Sport offers is 430 litres which is greater than the 296 litres offered by the Fortuner TRD. So, clearly looking at these figures, we can say that the Endy is longer, wider and taller than the Fortuner TRD and will definitely appeal to those looking for a full-size SUV that surely makes its presence felt on the roads and is spacious too.
Styling: Toyota Fortuner TRD vs Ford Endeavour Sport
The Fortuner with a TRD kit comes with reworked front and rear bumpers with TRD badging, a TRD radiator grille, dual-tone roof and 18-inch charcoal black alloy wheels. On the inside, it gets black and maroon leather seats with red accents and TRD badging embossed on them. Meanwhile, the Endeavour Sport has got a bunch of cosmetic updates like smoked headlamps, ebony black side mirrors with turn indicators, ebony black roof rails, skid plates for front and rear bumpers, the foot-board on the side also gets black accents. Moreover, the black treatment on the outside compliments the interiors of the Endeavour Sport as it gets all-black interiors on the inside. Styling is completely subjective and there’s no way we can conclusively say which one looks better. That’s for you to decide!
Drivetrain: Toyota Fortuner TRD vs Ford Endeavour Sport
The Fortuner TRD comes with a 2.7-litre diesel engine that churns out 174bhp and 450Nm of torque which is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Endeavour Sport comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine that produces a 168bhp and 420Nm of torque and is paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The Endeavour Sport is based on the Titanium+ trim which is why it comes only with a 4WD option while in the Fortuner TRD one gets an option to choose between a 2WD or a 4WD. This gives the Fortuner more options and allows Toyota to price the entry-level TRD more aggressively.
Displacement | Power | Torque | Transmission | Drive | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Toyota Fortuner TRD | 2755cc | 174bhp | 450Nm | 6-speed auto | 2WD/4WD |
Ford Endeavour Sport | 1996cc | 168bhp | 420Nm | 10-speed auto | 4WD |
Which one gets more features?
The Fortuner TRD comes equipped with LED headlamps and LED DRLs, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with six-speakers, push-button start/stop function, electric tailgate, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a small MID placed between the two dials and two driving modes. On the other hand, the Endy also gets LED headlamps and LED DRLs but gets a bigger 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with 10 speakers, a push-button start/stop function and a semi-digital instrument cluster. The Endy takes an extra point here for offering features like dedicated AC vents for second and third-row seats whereas the Fortuner TRD gets just the automatic coolers at the rear, panoramic sunroof, semi-auto parallel park assist, and four terrain management modes that are normal, snow/mud/grass, sand and rock. Also, the Endeavour Sport variant comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as part of the Sync 3 suite whereas the Fortuner TRD gets standard bluetooth connectivity. Both the SUVs get the same amount of safety features like seven airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability system, traction control and hill assist control. All the above parameters definitely make the Endeavour Sport a clear winner as it gets plenty of extra features than the Fortuner TRD at this price point.
Which one should you pick?
The Endeavour Sport comes with a price tag of Rs 35.10 lakh whereas the Fortuner TRD comes with a sticker of Rs 34.98 lakh for the 2WD and Rs 36.88 lakh for the 4WD. Toyota has undercut the Endeavour on price marginally by offering a 2WD model, which is smart considering many owners never even take their cars off-road. The Fortuner has a lot going for it – it has got the punchier drivetrain, and comes with Toyota’s legendary reliability. The Endeavour on the other hand gets a more imposing stance along with a longer features list. We can’t tell you which one to pick just yet, but stay tuned as we’re going to drive these cars in their BS6 avatars soon and give you comprehensive reviews!
