Mahindra Racing driver Lucas Di Grassi on the upcoming Formula E race in Portland

Team Evo India

This season the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship has already visited three new circuits, and each of them provided drama and entertainment for the crowds and the fans watching at home. I think Portland will be exactly the same and I can’t wait to get there and hit the track.

We had a tough time in Jakarta last time out. The heat was incredible but at least that was the same for everyone. I enjoyed welcoming Roberto to the team for the first time though. We worked together well and hopefully I helped both him and the team progress during the weekend. After two difficult qualifying sessions I managed to make up numerous places in both the races, but just not quite enough to get into the points.

The Portland track is an existing race track, which is different to the races we usually do at Formula E. It will be the fastest track of the season with very long straights and highspeed corners - a bit like an extreme version of Valencia, so we expect the races to have a lot of overtaking and a lot of lead changes. I think the drivers will also be making the most of the slipstream too. It is very important for us to go racing in the US and I’m very happy to be going to Portland. I’m definitely looking forward to the race.

Once again, the aim for Portland will be to improve on our qualifying sessions to be able to start further up the grid, which in turn should help us get into the points. I know how hard the team are working to improve the car in any way we can. Their motivation is still there to keep pushing, which is great to see. I hope we can reward them in Portland with some points.
