Great news for enthusiasts, since VW has officially green-lit its plans to bring its global sporty models the Golf GTI and the Tiguan R-Line to India via the CBU route. While they will be considerably more expensive than their European counterparts they are here to fuel the imagination of the Indian enthusiast, and that’s always something to be excited about.

The Golf GTI

Globally the Golf GTI is in its 8th generation and yet it has the same recipe as the first one to ever come out, a 2-litre, 4-cylinder engine, making 261.3bhp and 400Nm sending power to the front-wheels via a 7-speed (DSG) gearbox. Whether the manual option will make it to India is yet to be confirmed. The car comes standard with a front-axle differential lock, Dynamic Chassis Control and a slew of other electronics to ensure going fast is fun and not fluke.

The Tiguan R-Line

We are familiar with the Tiguan, so while the R-Line won’t have any mechanical changes, visually it will amp up the sporty quotient to the max while adding elements to the mix ensuring it looks the part. The car will receive upgrades such as 20-inch rims, sport comfort seats, R-Line style bumpers and multiple visual elements that will ensure the R-Line differentiates itself from the existing top-of-the-line elegance trim.

Prices of both the cars have not been announced yet, and while the Tiguan R-Line will rival cars such as the Audi Q3, Jeep Compass and Citroen C5 Aircross, the Volkswagen Golf GTI doesn’t have any outright rival except the current generation Mini Cooper S.
