Volvo Google

Volvo and Google had formed a partnership in 2017, to upgrade Volvo’s Sensus infotainment system. The two companies will work together on the next gen infotainment system, which will be run by Google’s Android OS.

The Volvo-Google alliance

In a couple of years from now, all Volvo cars will have infotainment systems based on Google’s Android OS. The car manufacturer’s next gen Sensus infotainment system will include Google Assistant, Google Play Store and Google Maps. All the additional apps from the Play Store will also make their way in the infotainment system.

Enhancing the user interface

The new apps and softwares will also be automatically updated in real time. Google Assistant will enable customers to control functions like air conditioning, attend calls and play music via voice control. Maps will provide real time info about the local traffic conditions and suggest the best route as we navigate through smartphones. The Swedish carmaker will is also working to improve its own software development which include connected car services and apps with this strategic alliance. Their tie up last year to develop Volvo’s user interface that will be reflected in their cars within two years.

Henrik Green on the partnership

Henrik Green, senior vice president of research and development at Volvo Cars, said “Bringing these services will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services.  Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps. This will make daily life easier and the connected in-car experience more enjoyable. The partnership to be entered into is an important strategic alliance for us. The Android platform, Google services and working relationship with app developers in-house and worldwide will help us further improve the Volvo car experience.”
