Gear: ViaTerra Trailpack for Royal Enfield Himalayan

The monsoons are here and thanks to us having an RE Himalayan for our longtermer, I have had a chance to explore a few trails around Pune. ViaTerra were kind enough to send across their Trailpack which was specifically designed for the Himalayan. Before you go all crazy and call me a fool for carrying luggage bags for trail riding let me clear up something basic for you – the Trailpack isn’t your take-it-to-Ladakh saddlebag but more of a carry your tools and extra socks kind of storage system.

The Himalayan comes with a jerry can mounting bracket on either side of the existing fuel-tank. ViaTerra have designed the Trailpack to make use of the same bracket to mount it making use of a dual velcro strap with an additional sleeve to slide it into the said bracket. Like I mentioned earlier, it isn’t meant to carry a plethora of items other than the bare necessities. It gets nifty outside pockets to place your mobile or your motorcycle documents. Inside, it gets mesh pockets that can house your nuts, bolts, fuses and such small items. Each bag has a luggage capacity of 6-litres which is more than enough to carry your tools and tyre-repair kit. Although one tip – balance out the weight on either side, else the bike may lean over one side which may cause a hindrance when you do hit the trails or dirt.

There is no rain cover for the bag as it was not designed to carry items which require water-proofing. Thus, it would be better if you get a rain cover for your mobile and documents or a proper rain-cover for the entire bag itself. It is available at www.viaterragear.com at a price of Rs 2,299.
