Tata has finally launched its sub-compact SUV – the Nexon, in India. The Nexon made its debut as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo and then in 2016 Auto expo it was showcased in a near production guise. It was one of the first products to feature Tata’s new design language and has been making a lot of buzz since it made its first appearance.
Powertrain options include a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol motor and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel motor. Both the engines make an identical 108.49bhp of power but the amount of torque produced is different. The petrol motor produces 170Nm of torque while the diesel motor produces 260Nm of torque. The Nexon currently is available with a 6-speed manual transmission only, automatic transmission may be added as an option later.
The Nexon is based on Tata’s new design language and with the prominent wheel-arches, contrasting roof colour, thick A- and C-pillars, 16-inch alloy-wheels and chunky tyres, it manages to create a butch crossover-ish appeal.
Interiors feature a well-layed out cabin design, push-button start, a large touchscreen infotainment system equipped with Android Auto and Tata’s ConnectNext App suite, 8-speaker Harman audio system and automatic climate control.
Standard safety features include dual-airbags, ABS with EBD and seatbelt with pre-tensioners and load limiters.
