Tata E-Vision concept: A bold move by the company in the direction of EVs

The E-Vision Concept

The 2018 Geneva Motor Show was a special event for Tata Motors, as it marked 20 years of Tata Motors at the International motor show, starting with the Indica back in 1998. Fast forward to March 2018 and the company stunned everybody when they revealed their E-Vision concept at the international event. It was nothing short of futuristic, whether it came to design or the interiors and it showed the bold new path Tata Motors are entering with respect to electric vehicles and its ‘Impact 2.0’ design language. Tata Motors have revealed very little when it comes to the technical specifications of the all-electric luxury concept car.  The E-Vision concept is built on the OMEGA EV Architecture and is powered by an electric drivetrain.

Engine and features

There isn’t much Tata Motors have revealed about the powertrain, save for some figures. 0-100kmph in under seven seconds, and a top speed of 200kmph. Tata has mentioned that the car will have the option of both, fast (DC) and slow (AC) charging. The car is filled to the brim with goodies such as predictive energy management systems based on live traffic and routes, connectivity tech like cloud computing, analytics, geo-spatial mapping, and increased human machine interface.

Chassis

The E-Vision concept is built on a modified version of the new OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture that was first seen on the H5X SUV showcased at the Auto Expo. Tata Motors claim the platform is modular, scalable and flexible enough to address the range of performance attributes for long-range travel with class defining interiors – all of it optimised for electric vehicles. So in the future we might get to see some electric SUVs and crossovers.

Design

The E-Vision concept features the Impact Design 2.0 language whose bold and sculpted lines give the sedan a wide and elegant silhouette. Up front, the E-Vision looks sharp with the slim LED headlights and the signature Tata humanity line crafted in brushed aluminium running through the entire width of the car. There’s another interesting design element up front that draws attention; a staggering 4,000 pins on a glass panel in place of the radiator grille.

With the H5X, 45X, and now the E-Vision concept, we can see the direction Tata Motors is headed in as an automotive company, which is clearly a good one. The future does look bright through Tata Motors’ eyes. But will these amazing ‘visions’ roll out a product that’s equally as stunning? All we can do is wait and watch.
