Porsche revives the Carrera 911 T moniker in a modern 911

Porsche has revealed a new Carrera T, a name inspired by the original 1968 911 T. The T stands for ‘touring’ and in addition to being lighter than a standard Carrera, it features some equipment that aren’t available on the Carrera like the PASM sports chassis as standard, a weight optimized sports chrono package, shortened shift lever with red shift pattern, sport-tex seat centres and the option of rear axle steering, none of which available in the 911 Carrera.

Some of the bits like rear seats and Porsche Communication Management are omitted on the 911 T, but can be added at no extra charge. These omissions result in a kerb weight of just 1425kgs, which is 20kgs lighter than the 911 Carrera.

Moving to the exterior elements, the car is recognized with the 911 Carrera T logos present on both sides and the rear. The front features front spoiler lip and the external rear view mirrors are painted grey. The car also gets the sports exhaust as standard with centrally mounted exhaust pipes painted in black. It gets 20-inch Carrera S wheels in grey.

On the inside, the driver gets 4-way adjustable electric sports seats, with the 911 logo stitched in black on the headrests, steering wheel in leather with a mode switch to select different drive modes as standard. The interior dash, door opening loops and doors are given the black treatment. Also a first are the optional full bucket seats. Another addition is the T interior package which you can spec your 911 T with – colors like racing yellow, guards red and GT silver create a sporty ambience.

The 911 T is powered by the same 3-litre flat-six petrol mill that does the duty in the other Carrera variants, and has identical power and torque figures of 370bhp and 450Nm as the base Carrera. It is mated to a 7-speed manual or the optional PDK transmission.
