Porsche’s next-gen Macan will join the electric SUV club

Porsche has decided to make the Macan an all-electric offering. This will be the first all-electric SUV from the company. An all-electric sportscar, the Taycan is already on its way and will be launched by the end of this year. The Taycan Cross Turismo will follow the electric Macan derivative. The next-gen Macan will roll off the assembly line at the start of the next decade.

The genesis of the electric Porsche Macan

Last July, the Stuttgart-based company decided to manufacture the next-gen Macan at the Leipzig site, the company’s home for electromobility. Like the Tycan, the new Macan will feature 800-volt technology. The next-gen Macan will be based on the Porsche PPE architecture that is developed in collaboration with Audi AG.

Commenting on Porsche’s electric future, Oliver Blume, chairman of the board of management, Porsche AG said, “Electromobility and Porsche go together perfectly; not just because they share a high-efficiency approach, but especially because of their sporty character. By 2022 we will be investing more than six billion euros in electric mobility, and by 2025, 50 per cent of all new Porsche vehicles could have an electric drive system. Nevertheless, over the next ten years we will focus on a drive mix consisting of even further optimised petrol engines, plug-in hybrid models, and purely electrically operated sports cars. Our aim is to take a pioneering role in technology, and for this reason, we will continue to consistently align the company with the mobility of the future.”
