Nissan Kicks launched in India at Rs 9.55 lakh

The much-awaited Nissan Kicks compact SUV has been launched at Rs 9.55 lakh, ex-showroom, India. This is the price for the base XL trim that comes with a petrol engine while the base diesel costs Rs 10.85 lakh. Bookings had already begun on December 14 last year and dealers have now started dispatching the vehicles.

The Creta rivalling Nissan Kicks is based on the same tried-and-tested Duster platform with the same engines and same mechanical package but wears a completely different skin and packs more features. It shares the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s MO platform which is a low-cost alternative for the developing markets. The ground clearance of the Kicks remains the same as the Duster’s, at 210mm while the top end variant runs on 17-inch tyres. Meanwhile, the design is full of cuts, slashes and all of Nissan’s global SUV design cues, giving it a very premium look.

Powering the Nissan Kicks

Under the hood the Nissan Kicks is powered by the K9K 1.5-litre diesel engine that also does duty in the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and the Renault Captur. The diesel mill makes 108.5bhp and 245Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and we’re expecting it to come with an AMT as well in the near future. The Kicks also comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that churns 104.5bhp and 142Nm of torque while being mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Again no CVT gearbox, something that is doing good numbers on the Duster, but that too should arrive soon.

Nissan Kicks – Packed with features

On the features front, the Nissan Kicks has a lot going for it. It gets LED DRLs, LED projector headlamps, blacked out pillars and a floating roof with dual tone styling. On the inside, there’s an 8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Though what stands out is the first in class 360 degree parking camera. It offers a bird’s eye view of the car and is a great feature to have on our congested city roads. Other features include cooled glovebox with illumination, tilt steering with audio controls, rear air conditioning vents, dual-tone interiors, USB charging ports, voice recognition and a smart card for keyless entry. The features, of course, depend on the variant you choose, but it’s clear that Nissan has certainly packed a lot into the Kicks.

Apart from the Hyundai Creta, the Kicks also takes on the Mahindra XUV 500 as well as it’s own stablemate, the Renault Captur. The base variant of the Creta costs Rs 9.60 lakh ex-showroom Delhi. The Renault Captur, on the other hand, is a little pricier with a starting sticker price of Rs 9.99 lakh. Moreover, the Kicks is being offered with a three-year warranty, three years 24/7 road assistance and three-year service maintenance at no extra cost.
